Do you need to remove the torsion bars?
First off, you do not need to remove the torsion bars whatsoever to perform this job! In that light, start by unbolting the crossmember from the mounts on both sides. There is one bolt per side and the nut is welded to the crossmember so you only need a ratchet + socket!

Why is my torsion bar support Mount junk?
So after a couple weeks of driving around with an ever increasing clunking/banging noise from under the truck it was finally discovered that the mounts for the torsion bar crossmember support were junk. You can see how the rubber bushing in the middle separated from the surrounding metal.

How does rubber wear away on a torsion bar?
You can see how the rubber bushing in the middle separated from the surrounding metal. Slowly the rubber wears away and eventually has enough room to bang around. The passenger side was making all the noise but the drivers side was beginning to tear away as well.
How many nylock nuts do you need to replace a torsion bar?
THE HARD (if you could call it that) PART IS DONE! For the re-install, you will need 8 7/16″x1.5″, minimum grade 5 bolts, i used a washer on both the inside and outside so 16 of those, and then i used 8 Nylock nuts. And here is where i apparently stopped taking pictures….I’ll get some of the finished product and post them later on.
