Why does some coolant say do not add water?

Why does some coolant say do not add water?

I believe the “don’t add water” message is to let you know water has already been added. Older formulations required the addition of water to dilute the coolant; the one you are referring to is pre-diluted. If there is currently a mixture of coolant and water in the radiator, it’s fine to add the 50/50 mixture.

Do you dilute BMW coolant with deionised water?

The whole system takes just over 10 litres, so you need 4x 1.5 litre bottles of coolant. As above, mix 50/50 with deionised water. The whole system takes just over 10 litres, so you need 4x 1.5 litre bottles of coolant. Click to expand… Yes. Although when I did mine I only used 3 of the bottles, and I drained the engine block too!

How big of a coolant tank do you need for a BMW?

While some engine coolants are designed to be mixed with water before being poured into the cooling system in your vehicle, you cannot just use any water that you please. Tap water is full of minerals that will eventually form deposits inside your radiator, plumbing and water pump.

Why do you mix antifreeze with engine coolant?

Pure antifreeze actually freezes and boils more quickly than water, but when combined, it actually lowers the freezing point of the mixture and increases the boiling point. It also prevents corrosion in your engine. Coolant is generally a 1:1 ratio of antifreeze to water. Why antifreeze though? Water freezes at 32 degrees and boils at 212 degrees.

Do you use Distilled or deionized water for coolant?

Hey guys, I always use distilled water to mix with my coolant, but last time around I picked up deionized water by mistake and didn’t realize until everything was mixed and the job was done. What does it mean when your BMW coolant is steaming?

Steam coming from underneath the hood is a sign of overheating and proves that the cooling system is unable to do its required function. A steaming hood means that the coolant in the engine has boiled and is now steaming. This is another instance where you would want to pull your BMW over to let it cool down.
